Leche vs Milk? Signing With Babies Helps Multi-Cultural Families

by Lorena Rubalcava

We strongly believe in signing for babies. We began teaching her sign since she was born.

Seeing her sign milk (leche) for the first time (6 mos) was exhilarating.

Signing blesses us more because our little angel is part of a multi-cultural family. She will be learning Spanish and English at the same time.

ASL helps us teach her how to communicate with us and her Spanish speaking relatives. She is now 12 months old and is communicating her needs, regardless of language spoken!

She signs please, thank you, more, up, down, and all done, thus far. We are excited about our baby being able to speak 3 languages, Spanish, English and ASL.
