Signing in the classroom - Sign Language

by Casey Shoup
(Altoona, PA , United States)

I currently teach a mixed age group of children (11 month - 2 1/2 years).

Some of my students speak with ease, while others are still finding their voices to express themselves. In order to help all of the stuents to better communicate and understand one another, I have been introducing common signs to them.

I use signs such as: please, thank you, more, all done, drink, eat, sick, help me, and some others.

I also have added sign language to help bring an added element to our literacy program. It has been an amazing and very rewarding lesson for all of us!
